We are delighted to welcome you to Southwest Segments! My name is Ron Mulligan and I live in Northwest Arizona. I have been interested in the arts for as long as I can remember and spent several years painting in oils and making trinkets for friends and family with stained glass. Some time ago, I acquired a lathe in exchange for doing some carpentry work. Turning quickly became a passion for me as I began creating segmented bowls, boxes and urns. I savor the look, feel and aroma of each individual exotic wood with which I work. Each of my creations is unique and I find myself constantly challenged by the problems each piece presents to me. I strive for excellence in solving those problems and with each piece I create I learn something new. Part of the fun is being the perennial student with wood as my teacher. All of my works are made of solid woods "au natural". I use no tints or stains. Each piece of wood is precisely cut and glued, turned on the lathe, finished with tung oil and buffed to a high gloss. I find wood turning to be a most stimulating and rewarding pasttime.
